Building Tour: Birkenhead Priory

Short Talk and Open Door of two of Wirral’s oldest buildings at The Birkenhead Priory. Learn about the significant history of these fascinating buildings and the past and future projects to make the historic site more accessible for all.

Birkenhead Priory consists of a mixture of Grade 1, 2* & 2 Listed Buildings, on a Scheduled Monument site, hidden away in a small corner of industrial Birkenhead.

Ainsley Gommon Architects have completed 3 phases of work, not only preserving the history of the site and buildings but help remove it from the Heritage at Risk Register, making it more accessible and inclusive to both the local and wider community and preserving the site for future generations. The tour will explore the history of the site, completed works to date and planned future phases.

Please arrive 15 minutes early for a prompt 5:30pm start.

Access Information:

The platform lift at the car park is currently broken, however there is level access from the Priory Street side. There is currently no lift to the upper refectory or up the steps of St Mary’s Tower.
